| Fireworks ... not so much |
There are four restaurants that I truly get excited over. They are: The Berlin Inn for German food Ruth's Chris for steak Snow Whites for crepes and Kell's for Shepard’s pie For a few minutes I had Ring Side on there, but it can't honestly compare (in my opinion) to the wonderful steaks I've had at Ruth's. But this lack luster food moment isn't about steak. It involves something that's taken me years to accomplish. Not that it was difficult to accomplish, I just didn't get around to it for some reason or another. Either way it resulted in years of anticipation that would result in brining me one step closer to my goal. What's my goal you ask? Well it's to dine at all three Kell's locations (Portland, Seattle & Dublin). I've long adored Portland's restaurant and FINALLY was making a trip to Seattle that allowed me the time to eat at the restaurant there (just a block east of Pike's Place. I was thrilled walking down the alley to the entrance, sharing the experience with my little brother who could appreciate not only the moment but the food as well because it was a weekday, and after the lunchtime rush, finding a seat was easy. In the back corner there was a booth, with a picture hanging over it that matched a painting that hung in my grandparent's house. It seemed like a sign from the heavens that we were about to have the most scrumptious of meals. When the waitress brought buy the menus we pretended to look even though we knew what we were going to get. The godly, soul warming, happy place Shepard’s pie that made you want to run through the hills shouting and screaming for joy as you in vision fairies and leprechauns singing along as they take you to a happy place where everything is perfect. My brother was well on his way to such a happy place as the waitress brought him a perfect mug of Guinness. Making plans about the places we were going to stop in Pike's Place before catching the ferry to Bremerton to finish work our food arrived. Sure the portion was smaller, served in a smaller dish with a side salad. It's not what Portland does, but it's lunchtime ... I can understand the smaller portion. As I waited for my pie to cool I ate my salad, ok the house ranch had a more southwestern taste to it then I would have liked. But no biggy it's just a starter for the awesome that was about to come. Eyeing the golden mashed potatoes topping I had to wonder ... where's the Guinness reduction that's usually on top which MAKES Kell's Shepard’s pie so amazing? Perhaps it's between the potatoes and the meat? Could you imagine how yummy it would be for that sauce to be baked into the meat rather then just on top? Well I'm still trying to imagine it, because there was no yummy sauce inside. Not only was a bummed on that account, what do I taste on my first bite but something tangy ... tangy? Why would it be tangy? Aaron was eating his clam chowder so he hadn't had a bite yet. He quickly corrected that when he saw my puzzled face. The tang tasted of vinegar, he said, with a strong aroma of oregano ... which is usually Italian right? We took another bite or two just to make sure, Aaron even poured some of his Guinness on the pie to see if it helped. It didn't take us long to push the plates aside and pray to god the waitress would come to take it away as the vinegar smell would waif into our noses. She did come, and we asked her what would make it taste that way? She went to ask the cooks ... she returned to reclaim one of the pies to take it back into the kitchen. She apologized, took the pies off our tab and asked if I wanted something else. At that moment I was far from hungry, my stomach was starting to feel weird. I said no, and then asked if the cooks figured out what was wrong. She said no, but they were throwing them all away. Ya I know I could have fought it, walked out without paying for a thing because of the gross mystery food. But I didn't care; it was a lunch that work would repay me for later. So I left Kell's disappointed, and worried about what it would be like in Dublin when I make it over there (hopefully within the next few years). The perk to this story? I went down the street and grabbed a Seattle Hotdog, which has cream cheese and sweet relish on it. HEY don't knock it till you try it. It's Delicious!!!Labels: Food, Goals |

| Fingers |
Have you ever really looked at your hands and fingers? I did the other day and was surprised by what I saw.
It all started with a nail tech mentioning something when she was doing my nails. She noticed that my ring fingers and pinky are rounder then my other nails are flatter (have less arch to the nail). That started a closer examination of my fingers all together. That's when I noticed that my pointer fingers aren't straight. They start out straight at the base and then slowly turn towards my middle finger. My middle fingers do the same thing, though it's not as noticeable. My ring fingers turn slightly the other way. Seriously if I hold all my fingers next to each other they look like a little finger family huddled together for a family portrait.
I want to know WHEN exactly my fingers started to look like this. Or have they been this way for 29 years and I'm just noticing them now????Labels: Random |

| The 11th Hour: The Date Behind Veterans Day |
"While most know that Veterans Day honors those who have served in the military, the meaning behind its exact date (November 11th) may not be so familiar. Here's the backstory:
Back in 1918, int he 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a stop to hostilities was declared, ending World War I. An armistice to cease the fighting on the Western Front was signed by the Allies powers and Germany.
President Woodrow Wilson immediately proclaimed the day "Armistice Day," kicking off the annual commemoration on November 11. But over the years, with veterans returning from World War II and the Korean Was, Armistice Day became Veterans Day - a day reserved to honor veterans returning from all wars. But 11/11 still represented the end of the Great War in the public's mind, and the date stuck.
In 1921, unidentified dead from the war were buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., Westminster Abbey in London, and the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The tradition to honor those killed in the war but never identified continued every year in the U.S. The ceremony in held at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery."
(This is all quoted from Yahoo News, I just quoted the whole thing - there something new you've learned today).Labels: News |

| Broken Silence |
I honestly can't believe it's been a whole year since I've posted something. Ok, honestly, if I thought about it I completely see how it's been a year. I'd like to blame poor memory for my failure. I come up with great random thoughts, rants and stories; but by the time I get to a computer I don't even remember having them, just the remnants of knowing I forgot something. I swear sometimes I have the memory of a goldfish. Labels: Chatter |

| The Research Continues |
In my on-going research to discover my hidden mutant power I regret to inform you that the ability to "Phase" hasn't appeared as of yet. Yesterday my hand failed to "phase" through the table in the lunch room as I tried to retreave my falling cell phone.
I'll keep you up to date as my progress continues.Labels: Goals |

| Stray Thought |
Have you ever had a random thought that keeps popping up in your head over-and-over again? Does it still get classified as a random thought if you keep having the thoughts over and over again? Or is it the random timing that classifies something as random? Then again it could just be an off subject thought that makes it random? I'm not sure if it's A, B, C or D. All the above that makes something random. I just know that I keep having issues with the same one. I can't shake the thought . . . phobia that every time I go into the stall of a public bathroom that when I come out some how I'll end-up in the boys bathroom. Maybe it's something that happened to me when I was younger, walking into the boys bathroom by accident. Or maybe it's the scene of Cameron Diaz in Charlie's Angel's 2 using the boys bathroom and getting caught that's stuck in some twisted way.
I can't begin to explain my thought process on something. I like to think of it as the "Bang Theory" (can't say Big Bang Theory cause that just sounds like it would hurt). The thoughts just BANG appear and there they are, for no rhyme or reason.
The cheese is strong with this one, H.Labels: Random |
